It is hooked up to your BMW's CAN network and programmed with an encrypted, secure PIN code that can be accessed using buttons installed in your car. This lets you enter the key push sequence that is not present in the standard media menus, such as volume up/down, source, cruise control or aircon on and stops your car from starting unless the sequence is entered. The PIN can be between 4 and 20 characters, making it hard for thieves to figure out.

In addition, we can also add a service/ valet mode to the system, this is activated when your vehicle is scheduled for maintenance to ensure that the Ghost is hidden from the garage. This can be achieved by pressing the service button on your infotainment system 5 times (the system will flash to confirm this) and then when you return the Ghost will re-arm automatically.

Anti-Hijack

With the advent of high-tech thieves becoming increasingly and more sophisticated the technology in security systems has to change, that's why Ghost has created this subtle and discreet immobiliser. It's designed to stop thieves from adding a new key or replacing the ECU in order to start your vehicle and then drive it away. Ghost connects to your CAN network, and uses buttons on your vehicle to create a unique push-sequence that must be entered before the engine can start.

When the anti-hijacking feature is activated and the engine is restarted, any attempt to restart the engine will be thwarted. If the system detects that the vehicle is no longer moving, it will honk the horn and flash the indicators, in case it fails to identify the correct code it will also stall the engine (where possible). The Anti-Hijack feature can be removed by entering your push sequence or by entering service mode which allows your vehicle to begin and drive, without having to enter your PIN.

If you have a GPS device that is connected to your BMW it could be used to turn off the Anti-Hijack feature so you can still use the navigation system in your car whilst the vehicle is parked and unattended. If you own a smart-phone, you can also link it up to your Ghost Immobiliser car app to control the anti-hijack feature and other functions.

We can connect your Ghost device to your mobile app for remote control of keyless go and start functionality. This is useful when you are else and a mechanic or valet needs to start your vehicle. The system allows you to start your car by selecting drive and then leave the service mode without having to use your key fobs. You can also see your vehicle's location in real-time on a map using your smartphone, perfect for tracking your car when moving around.

The Ghost can be fitted under the dashboard or within the center console. It is completely secure and untouchable and does not require additional wiring. The device is connected to CAN Data Network of the vehicle (similar to Ethernet cable) and a personalised pin code is programmed into it. This pin code has to be selected prior to the engine's start. This will prevent thieves from gaining access to the system using an unauthorized clone or replacement ECU.

If your vehicle is taken away, the Ghost will go into service mode and shut down all functions unless you have the PIN code or can use the mobile application to disable it. This feature was created to safeguard your vehicle from thieves with high-tech equipment who employ relay boxes to take it. It also stops thieves from being able to use their mobile phone to activate your sat nav system or mp3 player to locate your car!

Ghost also can stop "Relay Style Frequency Amplification". This is the most typical way a car is being stolen with a key-fob that was copied or stolen through hacking. Ghost allows you to prevent this kind of theft by installing a device known as Secure-A Key in your vehicle. The device installs inside your vehicle's key-fob and disconnects the battery after a short period of inactivity, this can be done on the majority of modern PKE key-fobs.
