Upgrades can increase the value of weapons, armors and rings. They also boost extra bonuses, such as crit chance and PvE damage.

Components

Upgrade components are items that can be inserted into armor, weapons and trinkets to give an extra stat boost or effect while they're in use. They can be obtained by crafting, purchasing from vendors, trading or looting. Some upgrades also have special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be inserted into equipment with a slot for them. The item must have been at a minimum upgraded to blue level for a component to be inserted. Like other mods, upgrade components can only be used once; they cannot be applied multiple times or replaced with new upgrades. Infusions and enrichments are a special kind of upgrade component that is that is used to upgrade non-amulet ascended or legendary equipment and upgrade items some of the back items that are not ascending. Enrichments and Infusions can be obtained by salvaging equipment that is ascended or completing a quest in the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.

Certain upgrades boost an item's Mark Level, or Rarity, which allows players to create stronger versions of the equipment with the smallest amount of Upgrade Crystals than is required to achieve the same level of upgrade using normal methods.

A boost upgrade can change the attack or defence attributes of a weapon, or armor. After the player has completed the cutscene and defeated Crazed Mechanist, these upgrades can be created at the Portative Forging Station. These upgrades can be purchased by purchasing them in the cash shop, or by collecting them from enemies when upgrading other equipment.

The player can have a maximum of five boost upgrades at one time. Each upgrade increases the probability that a higher-tier version of the item will be available at the time of the next reset. This gives the player some incentive to continue upgrading their gear, even if they're unsure of how much they'll increase after a future reset.

If a boost upgrade is successful or not, the process could be costly and there is a high possibility that the item will be obsolete or even break when it fails.
