Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our tests on floors that are bare and are particularly effective at cleaning pet hair. There are some issues, however, that prevent them from being our first option. One of the flaws of the Q5 is that its navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to become stuck on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people efficiently during our tests. It doesn't also have a camera that can see around corners.

It's still a good value particularly if your home or office has a lot of unfinished floors and you're looking to save some money. It's also extremely quiet and can be used when you're at work or school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming feature that's offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping, using disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on well and aren't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle, however. And, if you have to, you can swap the mopping pad for a dry one in just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a compact, sleek package. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also features a powerful suction and an automatic bin for emptying. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, but it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This highly efficient mop and vacuum combination makes use of advanced sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste and it also learns the layout of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. You can change the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones through the well-designed app. Its battery life is average in comparison to other models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to pull back and extend its mops. This helps prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach beneath furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It doesn't perform as well on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop that could complete an entire house, finishing with 66 percent of its battery left. It also did a great job cleaning a range of floors and rooms that had mixed flooring types, including certain area rugs. Its obstacle detection was top-notch and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog socks, turds, and bundles of cables.

It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums it, something we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With an elegant circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba than the competitors' boxes This mop and robot vacuum is among the most attractive looking models in our tests. iRobot's latest flagship model also is its most advanced model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic cleaner and mop vacuum/mop that has an exemplary 10/10 in our evaluations thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured lighting system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can fully self-refill and empty its base station, and it boasts the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to use. It has an easy mobile application interface and is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that it's still quite a noisy unit that could be an issue if you use it in the morning prior to work or at night as you try to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive, although it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally powerful and better-looking. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful, but it's going to cost you more and create more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a variety of sophisticated features to help you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine like Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically emptys the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, and washes and drys the mop pads.

The smart robot employs the combination of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and identify obstacles, making it more efficient than some of its premium competitors. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time detection of hazards but this was not 100% foolproof during our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vac works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home according to the amount of dirt they are.

For larger homes it's worth looking for a model with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a specific area of your home using the app or via voice commands. A stairway mode is useful if you own a number of furniture. Also the recharge and resume feature that lets your robot vacuum pick up right where it left off is ideal for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than its price suggests. It's a pro at cleaning, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using only one pad and a reciprocating movement which is cleaner than the majority of the robot mop cleaners that we've tried. It's also self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to guide you through an exercise in mapping which collects information about your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or to create an automatic spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for greater efficiency. The app also gives access to a host of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It can also reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It features an impressive 8000 Pascal suction, as well as intelligent combs to remove pet hair. You can also set up a spot clean that thoroughly cleans a particular area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana.
