Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our floor tests that test for bare floors and are particularly effective at cleaning pet hair. They do have some flaws however, which hinder them from being our first choice. For instance, the Q5's navigation doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology, so it's prone to getting hung up on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tight spaces very well in our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera to look around corners.

It's still a great deal particularly if your office or home has lots of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save some money. Additionally, it's quiet and can be used while you're at work, or going to school. The only thing it's missing that you don't get in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective at mopping, using disposable wet wipes that don't hold on well and aren't able to take on dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle, however. If you're required to mop, the mopping pad can be replaced with one that is wet in just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into an elegant, compact package. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also has a self-emptying bin, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best rated robot vacuum robotic hoover for carpets, but it falls behind some competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensors that help it keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time and provide better cleaning. You can change its cleaning schedule and customize zones through the well-designed app. Its battery life is average when compared to other models.

You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when it's in a room with carpet, which helps prevent cross-contamination. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba than the competitors' boxes this mop and robot vacuum is among the most appealing looking in our evaluations. iRobot's latest flagship model also happens to be its smartest, with advanced features including enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's also the sole robot vacuum or mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to the combination of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

Like other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, with a simple mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only issue is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in the mornings before work or during the night when you're trying to sleep.

The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and detect obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time but this was not 100% foolproof during our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to do the job. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vacuum works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home according to how dirty they tend to be.

If you have a bigger home, it's worth selecting a model with a zones or spot cleaning modes. This allows you to tell the robot cleaner which area of your house needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice control. A stair mode can be useful if you have a number of furniture. For busy families recharge functions and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off can be extremely useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you might imagine from its price. It is a great job vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with one pad that has an oscillating motion that cleans better than most of the other mop cleaners for robots we've tested. It's also self-sufficient with a fully-featured application, and a self emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through an initial mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, set up a spot clean or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to ensure better performance. The app has a range of options, including seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it can reach corners and underneath furniture more easily. It also has a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean that will thoroughly clean the area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and less expensive alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It is capable of vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to be caught by low thresholds and is a bit noisier than the other top robotic vacuums we've tested. It also has a less user-friendly app and a tiny base station that can't be used as an emptying bin.
