Spence (28-0, 22 KOs) was slated to move up to 154 pounds for a summer bout against Keith Thurman, but both Spence and Crawford were determined to fight each other next. The fighters met in March and came to an agreement on big-picture terms, sources said.

The two fighters each landed 130 punches over the 12 rounds, with Santiago owning a slight edge in power punches landed (62-53). Donaire actually out-landed Santiago in each of the first six rounds before Santiago took control of the second half of the fight. Santiago won each of the last six rounds on one card, five of the last six on another and four of the final six on the third card.

"Someone said I was criticized," Kenny Porter said. "Please, criticize me. Go right ahead, I love it. Because at the end of the day — this is where we at right now, we are at the end — tomorrow morning I will be able to look out of my window at his house right across the street from me. I will be able to play with my (grandsons), I will be able to walk my dog over to his house, I will be able to hug my daughter-in-law, and I will be able to love my son."

Crawford’s trainer asks him not to get into a firefight with Porter. Check hook from Crawford makes partial contact as Porter comes in. Porter touches the body with a left hand. Crawford sticking to the southpaw stance for now and step towards Porter. Porter scores while Crawford tries to time a big counter that misses. Both fighters hesitant for about a 30 second stretch and the growd gets anxios. Combination comes prom Porter and scores well on Crawford, who grins. Crawford looks like he’s done with boxing and wants to brawl. Porter is cut on his right eye from what might’ve been a head clash. Crawford pushes Porter to the canvas. I still think Porter’s getting the best of the action so far.

A two-time gold medalist at the amateur level, Madrimov turned pro in 2018. The man from Uzbekistan beat Magomed Kurbanov in March via TKO to win the vacant WBA super welterweight title. It was his seventh win via the power punch.

Having conquered yet another division, Crawford then rose to welterweight for his next fight, winning the WBO World Welterweight Title with a ninth-round TKO over Australia’s Jeff Horn. With the win, Crawford was now a three-division world champion and widely considered the best fighter in the sport.

Crawford dominated all night long showing his combination of power and speed from the very first round. Horn tried his best to lead the punching but it was Crawford who was able to land the consistent power punches that eventually exhausted the Australian and led to the Round 9 TKO win.

According to ESPN's Mike Coppinger, the loser of the bout had 30 days following it to trigger a bidirectional clause for a return fight later this year. As part of the clause, the winner of the July fight would decide if the rematch took place at 147 pounds or at Spence's preferred 154.

The 33-year-old Spence is a career-long welterweight who’s outgrown the division and has wanted to move up for years, but not before fighting Crawford to determine who’d be the best welterweight of his era, and the best 147-pounder since Floyd Mayweather Jr. retired.

"I was just warming up in the earlier rounds," Crawford said after the fight. "I just started picking up the pace, planting my seeds, and hit him with the hook. We knew what he was going to bring to the table, from orthodox to southpaw."

Though Spence stayed busy for the remainder of the fight, he never fully recovered, and Crawford continued to batter him with power shots. Spence wore the damage on his face to the point that the ringside physician checked to see if he could continue at the start of Round 5.

While his hopes to face Canelo Alvarez or rematch Errol Spence Jr. fell short, Crawford turned his attention to 154-pound division champion Israil Madrimov. The previously undefeated Madrimov was a game opponent and gave a commendable effort despite being a significant betting underdog.

The fighter of our generation, everybody would agree is Floyd Mayweather. I think Terence Crawford is now the fighter of our generation. That performance beats Floyd Mayweather at welterweight in his prime.

But what was expected to be a highly competitive, 50-50 matchup, turned into one of the finest performances fans had witnessed in recent years. Crawford emphatically stamped his place in the history books with a ninth-round TKO over Spence to become the first undisputed welterweight champion of the four-belt era.

Round 7: Some scattered boos start to rain down from the crowd. Madrimov marches him into the ropes but can’t do anything with it. Lots of feinting and circling in this round. Slick counter by Madrimov. Now the boos are really picking up. Crawford goes one-two. Another combination by Crawford. He slams a left hand into Madrimov. Not much happening in that round but Crawford stole it at the end. MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 Crawford. (67-66 Crawford.)
