How To Find Out If You re Ready To Pushchair
Choosing a Double Pushchair Twin
If you have twins, you'll need a double pushchair to take them from A to B. Our range includes twin prams as well as buggies that can be configured in various ways to meet your needs.
Choose a stroller that folds in one step and is easy to put into your boot. You might also want an ultra-light design that is easy to navigate and manoeuvre, particularly if you have busy streets to tackle.
Side-by-Side
This is the most popular double pushchair. It usually seats two children side by side. They are generally wider than single pushchairs, meaning they are less agile on footpaths and can be a bit difficult to navigate between kerbs with a car seat attached. However, the extra width means that they're often a lot easier to navigate through doorways and pushchair with Car seat are more evenly distributed making them less burdensome to carry on your back.
Many models can be used as early as birth as twin prams and take a carrycot, or two car seats. Some models can be converted to one-mode with a basket to the side (like the Cybex Venus).
One of the best examples of this is the Bugaboo Donkey 5 which, in Twin Mode, allows you to put the rear seat and carrycot side by side. This creates a totally enclosed space for twins and is perfect for babies. The childs pram also comes with a couple of really neat accessories, including the newborn cocoons which can be put on face either way (for a twin-facing pram newborn) or facing towards the front (for a standard single). It's not as light as other options but it is extremely well-thought out.
Lightweight
Cybex is known for its innovative pushchairs, and the single-to-double is no exception. The frame can be extended to accommodate another seat. It is possible to use the pushchair as a twin from birth by adding two cocoons for newborns, each costing PS59. These cocoons create lie-flat areas that are enclosed. The large shopping basket behind the seat allows it to be used in mono mode for one child. It also has front and rear suspension to tackle bumps push chairs and prams uneven surfaces a little more easily. Our reviewers picked this car as their top choice.
Available in a variety of stylish colors.
Tandem
If you're planning to have twins, you need a tandem pushchair that allows the children to be seated close to each other so that they can look at each one another. These are great for things like visiting the zoo, as the children will be able to gaze at all the animals together. They are also ideal for parents who need to monitor both their toddler and baby at the same time.
Some tandem pushchairs offer ultra versatility as they can change back to single mode. This is particularly useful if you plan to have more children than two (or if your eldest child isn't a need for an extra buggy). This means you won't have an empty pushchair to put away which can be expensive.
The Cybex Venus, for example, can be used either in double or mono mode. Its frame expands to accommodate an additional seat. This isn't the lightest of pushchairs, but it does come with a large basket for shopping which is located behind the front seat when in double mode (and at the back of the seat when it's mono mode). The seats can either be placed in a way that they face each the other or higher to observe what each is doing.
Other double tandem pushchairs, such as the Joolz Geo 3, are equipped to place one on top of the other or side by side. They are sleek and compact frame that makes them easy to maneuver through doorways and aisles of supermarkets and some models can even be used as a jogging cheap stroller or on rough terrain thanks to a four-wheel suspension as well as wide rear wheels.
A tandem pushchair can be used to transport two carrycots or a car with a buggy seat. You can save money by establishing a travel system at the beginning, and avoiding separate purchases. It's important to keep in mind, however, that tandems can be heavier and longer than single pushchairs and are less stable when in bumping into kerbs or over uneven surfaces. These pushchairs also need to be dismantled for fitting into cars.
