Charles the Humble Technician shows you how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. This sensor is located at the top of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via an uncolored wire T55/49, then to the tachometer located on the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The sensor is located at the edge of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear, the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends an electrical signal to ECU pin T55/49 using the grey wire. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate fuel, timig and boost. It also sends a signal to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to link the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft is TDC and the location of the camshaft so it can trigger spark and injectors accordingly.

If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error message. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is out of alignment with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate an issue with the chain or a jumped chain link in the upper chain. However, the error code won't be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It can be a bit difficult to test since there are different connector pins, and they all have different functions. The best method for doing this is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. It should read around 1000 ohms if the sensor is operating at its maximum. Examine for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you have issues with this component.

2. Injectors

Yesterday accelerating full speed from highway paytoll, i experienced massive power loss like the engine is running out of gas or the injectors aren't firing any more. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning, 3 were soaked in gasoline, and the fourth was dry. I placed a tissue over each hole in the injector and when I start the engine with no sparks, the ones with gazoline jump right out. The 4th one stays closed. I checked the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30, audi car Keys Replacement and 48/55. I found zero ohm. I think the issue is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset PID but without success. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it works fine when the G28 connected. However, the intermittent misfire problem continues to occur at higher RPM. The coolant temperature sensor (G62) shows the wrong temperature of -49c, even if I unplug it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar when the actual pressure is zero.

I'm not sure what to do. I feel like i've pretty much all other possibilities out. But i am afraid I might have missed something. Please let me know should you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 can be activated by a signal by the RPM sensor. The GM-style sender is identical to the G4 and both are used in the 80, 100 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a junkyard or at a parts store. Testing them is easy by putting your DMM in resistance mode and take measurements between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector end up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black end of the connector). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU in our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY) engines needs to be aware of the position and speed of the crankshaft to determine fuel injector timing, etc. It uses a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to accomplish this. If you encounter a problem with either of these, the diagnostic scanner will show the codes that could trigger an engine shutdown.

The signs of a failed G28 sensor include an inaccurate gearbox rev counter, gears shifting quicker than normal and/or misfiring when in gear. It is possible that the sensor is failing and needs to be replaced if you encounter any of these symptoms. They're cheap and easy to find especially if they're an Bosch sensor like ours. If you prefer, GM's version of this part is an excellent choice.

5. Tachometer

A malfunctioning engine sensor can cause a number of problems in your vehicle. It is an important part of the transmission of your audi replacement key fob since it sends information to the ECU regarding how fast or slow the car's engine is spinning. This sensor can cause the transmission to malfunction and other components in the car to be affected.

The G5 engine sensor is located at the outskirts of the transmission, just above the flywheel ring. It sends a signal via a gray wire to the ECU pin T55/49. The ECU then processes this signal to control fuel, timig and boost as well as transmitting it to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster. You can determine if the sensor is in failure by examining the continuity of the sensor to the tachometer. Additionally, you can examine the continuity between pins T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 as well as pin T26a/12. You should observe approximately 1000 ohms of resistance between those points. This is the same across the spare audi key 80-100-200-RS2 series, starting from the 1985 MC up to the 1997 UrS AN and the 1995 RS2 Du So, you may find them in wrecking yards.
